Donald’s dad, David, was a drag racer and was looking to put Donald in a Junior Dragster, when his mother said she thought they should look at oval track racing. When he was 5-years-old they took him to a track in Marietta, Ga. and he remembers to this day sitting in a Quarter Midget.
He started racing Quarter Midgets, moved up to Mini Cup and in 2008 was racing Legend cars. With Legend cars Donald learned a lot about making changes and setting up cars.
In 2010 he got his first Dirt Car, a Phil Coltrane Raider, and he ran a limited number of Crate Late Model races in that car. In 2011 he was in a new Rocket and won the Crate Late Model championships at Dixie and Rome Speedways. In 2012 they bought a Super Late Model engine in parts and moved up to Super Late Models.
In 2013 they built a new Super Late Model Motor and with that and a spec motor they won the Super Late Model track championships at Dixie and Rome Speedways. In 2014, the first year that they traveled with a dirt car, they ran Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals finishing third in the points. They finished fifth in the Southern Nationals and that put them second behind Billy Ogle Jr. in the overall points.
Donald started auditioning in the Blount Motorsports (BMS) primary car in September, and he won the season finale at Boyd’s Speedway. It was announced at the PRI Show in Indianapolis that he would drive the BMS primary car in 2014.
In 2015 and 2016 McIntosh raced to the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals championship. He also won the Southern Nationals Bonus Series championship in 2016.
The 2017 season saw Donald McIntosh attend a total of 58 events while visiting victory lane seven times. With the weather determining the outcome of 14 of his scheduled dates, McIntosh collected 36 Top-10 outings and 25 Top-5 finishes. He also captured his second straight Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series points title.
The 2019 season saw Donald McIntosh compete in a total of 54 events behind the wheel of his Blount Motorsports No. 7m and 007 Chassis No. 7 Super Late Model entries. Losing 13 of his scheduled dates to bad weather, Donald recorded seven wins, 22 Top-5 finishes, and 35 Top-10 outings.
